Vail Daily letter: Re-elect Stavney

Carole Onderdonk
Vail, CO, Colorado

Jon Stavney has worked tirelessly during the past few years behind the scenes helping spearhead the efforts at Eagle County to bring an assisted-living, skilled-nursing facility to the county.

With a small team at the county, Jon travelled around the state and country while screening potential operators.

Eagle County, like the nation, is aging. It would be a shame for those who have invested so much in making this valley what it is to have to leave when they can no longer live independently.

This is a matter of community concern for those of all ages.

A senior-care campus in our community would be a blessing to those who now have to leave to get this level of senior services and a blessing to those who would like to keep their loved ones near during these final years.

As one who has had to go to Carbondale for similar facilities, the efforts could not come to fruition soon enough.

Discussions about this type of facility go back 20 years. Projects like this take an amazing amount of time and require outstanding leadership. We can all thank Jon for his role in bringing this facility to Eagle County.

This current Board of County Commissioners has done the legwork, hired the right operator and hired an architectural team that combines national eminence in these services with a local architectural and planning team. I couldn’t be more excited that they have now a contract on property in Eagle Ranch.

It could not have happened without the extraordinary effort I’ve observed over the past two years. Continued effort over the next year or so is the only way this project can become a reality.

We are so close to bringing a senior-care campus to the valley. Please re-elect Jon Stavney so that this opportunity will not be lost.
