Vail Daily letter: Ready to serve on fire district’s board

Al Bosworth Vail, CO, Coloradonewsroom@vaildaily.com

On Tuesday, May 4, the area residents served by Eagle River Fire Protection District will have the opportunity to vote for two new members to represent them on the board of directors — one serving Edwards and one serving Minturn. This is an important election for Eagle River Fire Protection District. There are items pending that could impact the district for many years to come. That’s why I’m running for a seat on the board. My name is Al Bosworth and I have been a firefighter in this valley for almost 30 years. Prior to that, I was a volunteer in a small town outside of Seattle. I moved from Vail to Edwards in 1996, and soon after was elected to the position of president for the South 40 HOA. While serving in that capacity, I’ve dealt with a variety of political issues ranging from interaction with county leaders, public officials and developers to the simple everyday neighborhood issues. I also have my own company called Redtail Realty & Property Management. Although I do own my own business and feel I have good business acumen, I am foremost a firefighter. That does not mean that I would vote only from a firefighter’s perspective. Rather, I will be able to offer the insight, experience, and opinions of a 30-year line firefighter combined with the policy interpretations involved with being a homeowners association president, and the experience of owning my own business. This unique perspective gives me the knowledge needed to make educated and informed decisions. This position would be a blending of firefighting and policy, which I feel would be a natural progression.Because of the tough current economic situation and the forecasted bumpy outlook, it is my hope that the board will provide a secure future to the residents of the district without sacrificing any of the emergency response needs that our community has come to expect. My first priority will be to ensure organizational solvency and to have a sound plan in place to achieve the scheduled short, medium, and long range goals already provided by the chiefs and staff of the fire district.I offer the experience of a longtime local, a homeowner, a firefighter, homeowners association president and businessman. I have served the public as a firefighter for the last 30 years and if elected, I promise to continue serving the community that I have invested most of my adult life in at an even higher level. If there are any specific questions that have not been addressed concerning my position, I’m available by email or cell phone.Al Bosworth Edwards
