Vail Daily letter: Remembering Jesse

Dec. 16 will always be an incredibly hard day. My brother, Jesse, passed away last Dec. 16, and on the anniversary of his passing, I am hosting a celebration of his life at my place of work, Garfinkel’s in Lionshead, beginning at 4 p.m.

There will be a silent auction, as well as donation box to raise money for a very good cause. I want good to come out of something that was so devastating to me, my family and Jesse’s many friends.

Drug addictions, alcohol abuse, and depression are three very serious problems we have in this valley. During the holidays, these three issues negatively impact people’s lives on an even deeper level.

Please help me raise awareness that there is help in this valley. Colorado West Regional Mental Health is a private, not-for-profit corporation with a mission to create access to quality mental health and substance abuse services, enhancing recovery and resilience in our community. I don’t work for Colorado West, but I am very passionate about how they are helping individuals in our community.

They offer 24/7 emergency services, a detox facility, employee assistance programs, individual and group substance abuse therapy, consultation/education classes, workshops and many other great services.

They accept many health insurance plans, Medicaid, Medicare, self-pay (with a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay), and an uninsured benefit plan. There are some client scholarships through grants provided to county residents regardless of ability to pay, but as the economy is down, so is the funding available to support these programs.

Please help us raise money for this very important cause with a donation to a grant or items for a silent auction. Also, think about offering these services to your employees through an employee assistance program. Businesses that offer an employee assistance program report increased employee satisfaction and decreased benefit expenses, as well as lower costs related to absenteeism, performance and employee turnover.

For more information about Colorado West services in Vail, located in the bottom level of the Lionshead parking structure, call 970-476-0930, or call 970-328-6969 for the Eagle office, located at 137 Howard St.
