Vail Daily letter: Sorry about that
Vail, CO, Colorado
A recent letter writer was upset by a fundraising campaign he saw in the local City Market, and we would like to offer our clarification and apologies.
In our desire to quickly respond to the needs of our community during the recent wildfires, a well-intentioned error was made by our staff that incorrectly characterized those donations “support regional firefighting efforts.”
This was not the approved language by the Red Cross and should have stated that donations would support Red Cross disaster-relief efforts. The good news is that the generosity of customers and associates enabled us to donate more than $150,000 for Red Cross Disaster Relief efforts, which have helped thousands of Coloradans
affected by wildfires this summer.
The writer also mentioned the good works of the Salvation Army. We agree, and we have been proud to partner with them for more than 30 years. Last year, through our Red Kettle campaign at King Soopers-City Markets, we were able to raise nearly $900,000 to support their mission.
We are pleased to partner with both the Red Cross and the Salvation Army for the good work they both do in the communities we all share.

Are we seeing more bears because there are more bears on the valley floor, or because we’re all spending more time at home? It could be a bit of both.
