Vail Daily letter: SOS from Lake Creek

Justin Smith
Edwards, CO Colorado

I am a resident of Lake Creek Village Apartments in Edwards and have been since moving to Eagle County last October. Like most people in the county, I moved here to ski and enjoy life, but I don’t make a fortune living here.

I made a mistake when choosing a residence. At the time, I had to get something quickly to start my new job – I relocated here from Frisco. I am praying you can help a few of us who live here. We are paying astronomical rent at this “affordable housing” and suf-fering badly. One of my female neighbors who will stay anonymous told me that she was scared to go outside to her car at night now. There is a mountain of broken glass bottles on the walkway below me, and the destruction and filth at this property is mind- boggling.

I had a discussion with a police officer today, and he told me they had stepped up patrols here. Yesterday, I was outside four times – three of those, there were Sheriff’s Office vehi-cles in various locations called out for disturbances. Apart-ment management is doing nothing, which is criminal in itself.

Is this really happening here? I moved here to ski. Yesterday was the first time since leaving a rough neighborhood in Houston, as a child, that I bar-ricaded my front door.
