Vail Daily letter: Tjossem for council
Vail, CO Colorado
Susie Tjossem is an extremely dedicated member of the Vail community. Like many of us, she came for a ski season as a young 20-something and fell in love with the place. Susie’s career in that time has evolved from a young woman working multiple jobs to pay the rent to becoming an executive at both Vail Resorts and Booth Creek Ski Holdings. I believe this broad range of experience gives Susie the perspective of many different members of our community.
I have sat on the board of directors of the Vail Chamber and Business Association with Susie for the past 2.5 years. In that time, our organization has gone through many very serious changes and some trying financial times. Susie has proven to be a rock-solid member of our board. She is adept at reviewing financials, is fiscally responsible and is able to use her strong analytical skills to create a balanced budget.
The VCBA is an organization committed to getting “feet on the street” in the town of Vail, which is done primarily through the creation and execution of community events. Susie has volunteered to help make many of these events possible and has gone above and beyond by continually coming up with new events. She has a wonderful grasp of what our membership wants and needs and applies her understanding of this when evaluating these events for the good of the overall business community.
Susie also is dedicated to filling the role as advocate for merchants and businesses in town and has readily placed herself between the VCBA, town of Vail and Vail Resorts on behalf of the business community. I believe that these skills will directly correlate to Susie’s ability to listen to what the Vail community as a whole wants and needs. The skills that I have personally witnessed Susie utilize are the same skills that make for an excellent Vail Town Council member.
Susie also has been a member of the Planning and Environmental Commission for the past two years. As a member of the PEC, Susie has had the opportunity to work with the town staff and be intimately involved in Vail’s master planning. As a member, Susie has gained extensive knowledge of future development projects, including their benefits and impacts.
I am supporting Susie Tjossem for Vail Town Council because she has an excellent perspective on Vail’s past and future. Susie is intimately involved in town boards and commissions. She is already experienced at working within the town of Vail system, and I believe she is passionate about Vail.
