Vail Daily letter: Vote yes on Proposal 1A
Vail, CO Colorado
Eagle County residents, we have an opportunity to positively impact our lives by voting yes for Proposal 1A when our November ballots arrive in the mail this month. Pro-posal 1A creates an Energy Smart Local Improvement District. By establishing such a district, a bond can be created which will result in more jobs and also allow us to inexpensive-ly reduce our carbon footprints.
Over the past months, through personal experience, I learned how Proposal 1A could benefit me, an Eagle County homeowner. Proposal 1A would allow me, through the bond, to finance a solar panel sys-tem on my home. I could repay the loan through a voluntary assess-ment on my property taxes. I would realize a net financial gain by com-bining the amounts realized through rebates, the Energy Smart Initiative and the reduction in my utility bill. The positive cash flow will actually give me better than a 8 percent return on my investment in a green initiative.
I was initially concerned about the 12- year payback on spending the money on a solar energy system. What if we’re not in our current home for the next 12 years? One of the compelling aspects of the Ener-gy Smart program is that the improvement stays with the home, allowing subsequent owners to enjoy the benefits of lower utility expense as a result of the invest-ment in solar energy.
So let’s create more jobs while creating an opportunity for people to reduce their carbon footprint by voting in favor of the Energy Smart Local Improvement District by vot-ing yes on Proposal 1A.
