Vail Daily letter: We need better bus service
July 2, 2010
The current bus service in Avon and the county is seriously lacking in service within and between the majority of the population.
The towns in this valley would not function without the people who live in Buffalo Ridge and other locations in Wildridge. These residents often do not make enough to afford their “own” transportation.
Heck, I’ve lived from Edwards to East Vail and I had a professional job until December 2008. At a $45,000 salary, I could barely afford my car. At the time, there was no other option due to the location of bus stops in Avon and the schedules.
I am fortunate to have my dream job and great housing in Vail, and even then, the East Vail summer bus schedule is not conducive to my work schedules.
My current housing may not always be available, and that will be a very sad day. I make less than $20,000 a year now, and there’s no way I could afford to live outside Vail and drive my car every day, nor is there a bus that remotely matches my schedule.
Lastly, you may think those people who don’t have cars won’t suffer from additional taxes to provide this service. But believe me, their rent will increase and their income will not.
