Vail Daily letter: Yes, Santa is real
Eagle Valley High School
Re: “Yes, Vail Valley, Santa is most certainly real” in the Dec. 16 Vail Daily.
I read your great piece in the Vail Daily and wanted to reply, as you encouraged readers to do!
Santa is real! Like you, I saw Santa in the 20-plus students in my classroom who volunteered to ring the Salvation Army bell at the Eagle City Market and Gypsum’s Columbine Market last Saturday. These inspirational ninth-graders bundled up, braved the cold and solicited donations for those less fortunate than themselves. Some of them created Christmas raps to encourage people to donate, complete with girls “beat-boxing” for percussion.-
I see Santa in people like Anne McNeil, who knows I work at the high school and who called me, saying, “I want to give $100 to a high schooler in need.-Sometimes high schoolers get overlooked. Can you see my $100 gets to a teenager who needs it?”–
I see Santa in our high school band and choir (their leader Pat Sheehy), who are working diligently and enthusiastically to solicit donations at their concerts and throughout school so they can earn enough money to provide for three children to attend school all year in Haiti!-
I see Santa in Susan Scott, beloved veteran EVHS teacher who never stops finding ways to help others in need, whether a family in crisis who our teachers “adopted” or rallying students to donate to the Toy Drive to ensure disadvantaged children have a toy under their tree.
I know Santa is alive in our community – I see his spirit again and again and again. While I may not see him, I have faith that he lives!
