Vail Daily letter: Yes to Kostick, no to ERS

Last weekend I took an early season mountain biking trip to Fruita. As I drove along I-70 through picturesque Glenwood Canyon, I thought about how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful state. I also thought about how our forefathers fought to preserve our lands for future generations.

Sadly, as I progressed through Glenwood I saw a huge shopping mall and multitudes of other plazas that don’t seem to fit into the landscape. Farther down the road is an unsightly Walmart in Rifle.

The grand finale is Grand Junction. On the outskirts there is new shopping areas, but then you suddenly see the abandoned strip malls left there to be graffitied upon.

Into the heart of downtown near the university are cafes, breweries and coffee shops owned by local entrepreneurs. They are filled with happy patrons and college students.

This brought thoughts of Eagle to mind and how much I enjoy our small town, nationally acclaimed mountain biking trails, our local businesses and their owners. I moved to Eagle to escape malls and urban life.

I don’t think Katherine Lee Bates had visions of amber waves of Target and purple tops from Coldwater Creek in mind when she wrote “America the Beautiful.”

The greedy RED developers from Kansas City do not care about Eagle. They overpaid for land and are looking to Eagle to bail them out. That east Eagle land is priceless, and if you feel the same way please vote Yuri Kostick for mayor. I enjoyed hearing his vision for Eagle. He has always voted with the citizens of Eagle and values our opinions.

The future of Eagle is in our hands. Please vote no to ERS!
