Vail Daily letters: For van Beek
Vail, CO, Colorado
My name is Koos Van Heerden, and I am with the South African National Police Officer Service. I am currently serving and representing South Africa on the International Police Mission in Afghanistan and have worked with James van Beek, your candidate for sheriff, for the past 21⁄2 years.
James worked as a supervisor in this mission since I have known him. We have worked side by side and together with those he was supervising. Throughout our time together, James is the person we turned to for problem-solving issues, to manage and facilitate operations and difficulties among the multinational forces working in this environment and to resolve personnel and personal issues.
James is known among all of the police working here as the
guy to make quick, informed and correct decisions when they
were needed. James always was willing to go out of his way to befriend and treat with respect and friendship everyone he came across no matter where they came from, their background or their beliefs.
James is now preparing to leave us to pursue the opportunity to become your next sheriff of Eagle County. He is leaving us now not only as a close colleague but as a dear friend, and he will be missed. If James is an accurate representative of the type of police officer that comes from your area, you have much to be proud of, and I await the time I can come see his home.
As a professional colleague, and not only as a friend of James, I encourage each of you to look at James very closely and elect him as your next sheriff.
