Vail Daily obituary: Hans Schindler, 1922-2013
Mr. Hans Schindler, 91, of Sun City West, Arizona, passed away on Aug. 30, 2013, surrounded by family members.
Hans was born in Neustadt, Germany, on June 19, 1922, and came to the United States with his first wife Hilda in 1949. They lived in Fox Lake, Illinois, where Hilda passed away on July 13, 1962. Hans later met Maria Pocaterra, and they married in 1971. They moved to Woodstock, Illinois, where they lived as their children finished school.
They then moved to Vail. After Colorado, they moved to New Mexico where they operated a business for many years. The next stop in their journey was Sedona, Arizona, and ultimately Sun City West, Arizona.
Hans loved his family and the outdoors. He loved to ski, hunt and fish. He also loved music and dancing. Later in life he enjoyed model railroading, which he had done early in life in Fox Lake.
Survivors include: his second wife, Maria (Sun City West, Arizona); daughters Ingrid Sullivan (Chico, California), Mary Slawek (St. Charles, Illinois), Sylvana Siegal (Santa Fe, New Mexico); sons Allen Schindler (Lamoille, Nevada) and Robert Pocaterra (Greshem, Nebraska); seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service honoring his life is planned for June 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Cemetery in Spring Grove, Illinois.
Paul Cuthbertson, a lifelong local of Eagle and Summit counties, died while skiing up to the Polar Star Inn to meet some friends for a celebration of his 21st birthday on Friday night.
