Theodore Robert Beck, 92, passed away Jan. 8.
Born in Salida on Jan. 14, 1923, to Earl and Dessie Tomlin Beck, Ted grew up the oldest of six brothers in Red Cliff, where he began his career working for the New Jersey Zinc Co. In 1954, Ted accepted the position of shift boss at Anaconda Mining Companies. He retired in 1979 but retirement didn't take and Ted returned to work as mill manager, retiring from the position in 1986.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ellinora (Ellie); his son Earl; his brothers, Bruce, Buster and Quinn; grandson Michael Henley; and granddaughter Michelle Rene Justiss. He is survived by a son, two daughters, three grandsons, five great-granddaughters.
A reception celebrating Ted's life will be held in Grants, New Mexico, in early spring. Ted requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to New Mexico Mining Museum, 100 N. Iron Ave, Grants, NM 87020, or the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, P.O. Box 981, 120 W. 9th St., Leadville, CO. 80461.
