Vail Daily obituary: William Sargent, 1940-2012

Bill Sargent, of Wildridge, was born in Rochester, N.Y. on Aug. 20, 1940, to parents Randall and Anne Sargent. He lived in Rochester until 1972 and then moved to Vail.

When he moved to Vail, Bill was hired by Vail Associates to work as a lift operator on the Golden Peak Lift but quickly was promoted to be the Director of Mountain Operations for Vail Mountain. He worked as the director until 1976. He married his wife, Sandy Sargent, in Vail in 1982.

Bill then became a Managing Broker for Crossroads Realty and purchased the company in the early 1980s. He and Sandy ran the business until 2004 when they sold it to their daughter and son-in-law, Malia and Jay Nobrega. Bill continued to sell real estate until he died.

Bill was an active member of St. Clare’s Parish. He loved the outdoors and was an avid skier. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family.

He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather to his seven children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sandy Sargent; sister Sandy Wallace; brother Randall Sargent; children Amy Thomas (JT Thomas), Tim Sargent, Elissa Sargent, Malia Nobrega (Jay Nobrega), Matthew Sargent (Hillary Sargent), and Emily Chesterton (Stephen Chesterton). His daughter Tracy Rausa preceded him in death.

A Catholic Funeral Mass for family, close friends and fellow parishioners of St. Clare’s Parish and St. Patrick’s Parish will be held on Friday, at 10 a.m., at the Beaver Creek Interfaith Chapel.

A memorial reception for anyone who knew Bill and would like to share memories and celebrate his life will be held on Friday at noon at the Donovan Pavilion in Vail.

Bill had some charities that were near and dear to his heart. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted in a memorial fund at all First Bank locations. Donations will be distributed to the various foundations to which Bill contributed. Checks can be mailed to First Bank PO Box 5270, Avon, CO 81620 with a designation for the William R. Sargent Memorial Account.
