VAIL, Colorado Highline Sports & Entertainment announced that the seventh annual Tuaca World Pond Skimming Championships, set for April 18 in Vail, Colorado, will feature turntablist DJ Logic, a free BBQ courtesy of Vail Resorts, offer two 2009-10 Epic passes for the 2009 Pond Skimming champion and kick-off The Great Epic Giveaway, a Vail Resorts appreciation promotion. Part of the Spring Back to Vail end-of-season festival, the Tuaca World Pond Skimming Championships will be held April 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Golden Peak base area on Vail Mountain. Widely credited for introducing jazz into the hip-hop realm, DJ Logic is one of the most accomplished and well-known turntablists in the world. Since his emergence in the early 90s amidst the New York City hip-hop scene, DJ Logic has been amassing an authentic range of spinning collaborations. Most recently, DJ Logic has focused on studio projects and has produced three solo albums including Zen of Logic, The Anomaly and Presents Project Logic, all released by Ropeadope Records. DJ Logic is one of the most acclaimed DJs in the world and has a huge following here in Vail, said James Deighan of Highline Sports & Entertainment. He will take the already energetic pond skimming crowd to a whole new level next Saturday.Taking center stage at the base of Golden Peak at 2 p.m., DJ Logic will spin throughout the duration of the World Pond Skimming Championships. In addition, a free BBQ, courtesy of Vail Resorts, will be provided to all event attendees on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 3 p.m. The World Pond Skimming Champion will be awarded two 2009-10 Epic passes, valued at $1,158, a modification from previously announced prize of $1,000 cash. A legendary element of Spring Back to Vail, the Tuaca World Pond Skimming Championships has really been ramped up this year, said Jeff Brausch of Highline Sports & Entertainment. With the wide variety of music, food and Epic events, this years Pond Skimming Championships is a cant miss event. Following the pond skimming event will be The Great Epic Giveaway, a Vail Resorts sponsored promotion that includes a destination trip for two to a remote Vail Resorts Caribbean property, a host of 2009-10 Epic passes as well as a wide variety of merchandise gifts including K2 and Liberty skies, Smith eyewear, 3,000 t-shirts and more. The Great Epic Giveaway will be a scratch-card competition with details on how to participate announced at the conclusion of the pond skimming championships. Spring Back to Vail starts Monday. The line-up includes end-of-season entertainment in Vail with on-snow events, live music, nightly parties, the ever-popular World Pond Skimming Championships and new for 2009, the Breitling All Mountain Film Competition, Epic Lounge and ECO Village. In addition, Spring Back is providing two free headliner concerts, Chris Isaak with opening act Lisa Witty performing Friday, April 17 and Of a Revolution (O.A.R) with opening act The Crash Kings performing Sunday, April 19. The concerts will be free to the public and will be held at a brand new venue in Vail Village, with the stage set at the new Solaris area and concert-goers moving across the International Bridge to Checkpoint Charlie.
