February 24, 2016
VAIL — A vehicle containing diesel fuel spilled approximately 50 gallons over a 400- yard section of the westbound lane on West Meadow Drive on Wednesday morning. The spill was contained and cleanup efforts continued through the day.
The spill occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. as RMS Cranes of Denver was working to deliver an emergency generator to Vail Valley Medical Center as part of its west wing construction project. Members of the medical center's construction crew noticed the spill and immediately stopped the vehicle, assessed the situation, set up cones to prevent tracking and contacted the Vail Fire & Emergency Services Department.
At the request of the fire department, Cleanwater Cleanup Co., based in Breckenridge, was called out and arrived on scene at approximately 12:15 p.m. to begin cleanup. Traffic control established one-way vehicular circulation through the area. The spill was contained and none of the fuel leaked into the stormwater system.
The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment were notified about the spill.
