Vail giving away extra Christmas lights
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado ” The town of Vail is sponsoring a free giveaway of its extra holiday lights.
The giveaway of nearly 37 miles of new and used lights will take place on June 10 and 11. The lights will be available to Vail businesses on the first day, then to Vail residents and businesses on the second day. Recipients will be encouraged to help decorate the town during a new holiday kick-off that will be launched during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The giveaway will be staged at the Vail Village parking structure from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Recipients are asked to drive down the Village Center Chute, east of the Solaris construction site, then turn left onto East Meadow Drive. From there, attendants will be on hand to assist with parking, traffic flow and filling orders.
To help expedite the giveaway, participants are asked to prepare a written list of the types of lights they’re requesting to give to the attendants at the site. A list is available on the town’s Web site at http://www.vailgov.com. The list includes thousands of strands of mini-lights in various colors, plus the larger C-7 and C-9 strands as well as hanging light spheres and icicle lights.
While there is no limit on the number of lights that can be requested per order, participants are asked to take only what they can use for their business or residence and to be conscientious in minimizing energy consumption by turning the lights off during daylight and late night hours. Proof of eligibility is required, such as a driver’s license or copy of their town of Vail business license.
The giveaway is the perfect incentive to enlist the business community to assist in lighting up the town for the holidays, said Vail Special Events Coordinator Sybill Navas.
“The input we’ve received from the business community has been to move the holiday kick-off celebrations to Thanksgiving weekend, and we’re hoping this will energize everyone to light up their businesses for the festivities,” she said.
The “lights-on” event will include awards for best displays with priority given to Vail businesses, then residences.
