Vail, Gypsum events collect medicine
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – The Vail Police Department will be taking part in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday by hosting a collection site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town of Vail Municipal Building parking lot, 75 S. Frontage Road. The event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Vail Police officers will be on hand to collect any unused, expired or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications and supplements, including controlled prescription drugs. The medications turned in will be safely disposed of by the DEA using an environmentally friendly incineration process. The event is free of charge and no personal information will be collected.
Getting rid of expired, unwanted or unused drugs reduces medication mistakes at home, which are the most common cause of accidental poisoning, and also prevents the intentional abuse and misuse of medication.
Call Vail Police Detective Justin Dill at 970-479-2339 for more information.
Also, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand at the Gypsum Town Hall on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription and over-the counter medications.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day also keeps pills and medication out of the waste stream – both the sewer and the landfill – and protects local rivers that are used as source water for drinking water production.
