Vail to host Slifer Square open house
VAIL — An open house is planned from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the town of Vail Municipal Building to provide an update on proposed fountain improvements and required maintenance needs in Slifer Square, located between the Covered Bridge and Vail Transportation Center in Vail Village.
During Monday’s open house, members of the public are invited to stop by to review the proposed fountain concepts and better understand the maintenance needs of the plaza. The displays will be located in the conference room across the hall from the town council chambers.
Following the public feedback session, next steps include an update to the town council to provide an update and affirm the design direction.
Construction during spring, fall 2017
The $1.3 million Slifer Square project is proposed to be phased and includes repairs to Slifer Fountain to address a significant water leak, replacement of a damaged storm sewer, installation of a water quality treatment vault near the Covered Bridge to treat storm water discharge into Gore Creek and replacement of steel snowmelt mains with non-corrosive mains. The project will require significant excavation and disruption. Construction is anticipated in the spring and fall of 2017.
