Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – The Town of Vail will host a community workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Friday to discuss its sustainable building initiative. The workshop will be held in the Town Council Chambers in the Vail Municipal Building, 75 S. Frontage Road.

Contractors, builders, architects, homeowners, energy professionals and others who are interested in helping the town with its sustainability programs are encouraged to attend.-

The workshop will be used to solicit community feedback on development of a building code that will be used to address energy efficiency, landfill waste diversion, recycling, outdoor energy use and other guidelines.

Friday’s workshop is the first in a series of community discussions to be used to identify strengths and challenges as the proposed regulations are drafted. The sustainable building code, in combination with adoption of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, is intended to help guide the town toward achieving its goal of 20 percent energy reduction by 2020.

The timetable for adoption by the Vail Town Council is October 2009. Prior to the council’s consideration, the town will sponsor additional workshops for public review and comment.–
