VAIL, Colorado ” Vail, Colorado hopes to get lucky as the host of an Irish hurling tournament and Irish festival this summer.

Hurling is a contact sport that is a combination between field hockey and football ” and if all goes according to plan, Vail residents and visitors may get to see players from across the country in action. The festival would also include booths and a market celebrating Irish heritage, said Vail Valley Partnership’s Chris Romer.

The partnership is working to bring the festival, which already has sponsors, to Vail. It would be held in Ford Park from Aug. 20 to Aug. 23.

“It’s still in the works, but I’m confident it will happen,” Romer said.

Vail is also one of two finalists to host a national Judo tournament, which would be held at Dobson Arena. The other contender for the event is Myrtle Beach, S.C.
