Vail Jazz debuts Solaris Tent today

VAIL, Colorado – Jazz at the Farmers’ Market continues its tradition of cool jazz on Sunday afternoons in Vail Village. Musicians will perform at a new tented venue at Solaris at Vail. The new venue on the skating rink at Solaris offers 100 seats under the tent from which to enjoy cool jazz.

Vail’s Jazz Ambassador Tony Gulizia, keyboard, will join with Max Wagner, tenor saxophone, and Allan Finney, drums, to open the new Vail Jazz Tent at Solaris. The trio will perform tunes from the American songbook, including blues, Latin jazz and straight-ahead Jazz. These three veteran jazz musicians are also top flight vocalists who can deliver that swinging jazz feel whether playing their instruments or crooning a classic standard.

“We dig playing the market -and with the new tent, folks can sit down, chill out and soak in some great music,” said Gulizia, who leads the trio.

Their jazz playlist has been described as “feel good music,” but the trio prides itself on surprising the audience. “Sure, we play jazz classics, but we love to mix it up with familiar tunes, plus new directions in jazz – music that pulls you right into the groove,” Gulizia said.

The Vail Jazz Festival continues with a series of 10 free concerts in the tent at Vail Square, starting on July 7 with Curtis Stigers from 6 to 8 p.m. in Lionshead. To wrap up the summer of jazz, the Vail Jazz Festival presents the 17th annual Labor Day Weekend Jazz Party from Sept. 1-5 at the Vail Marriott and in Vail Square in Lionshead. The Vail Jazz Party includes performance by more than 30 artists including Monty Alexander Trio, Jeff Hamilton, Dena DeRose, Terell Stafford Quintet, Wycliffe Gordon, Byron Stripling and many more. Tickets start at just $45 and are on sale now. Visit http://www.vailjazz.org for more information.
