The Vail Jazz Foundation wraps up its eleven-week festival on Labor Day Weekend with the final free Jammin’ Jazz Nights concert featuring the Clayton Brothers Quintet & The Vail Jazz Foundation All-Stars, Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. in Lionshead’s Sun Dial Plaza.The Vail Jazz Festival’s Labor Day Weekend Party kicks into full swing on Friday, Aug. 30 and continues through Sept. 2. The eighth annual festival, an internationally acclaimed event, features the world’s greatest jazz musicians jamming more than 24 hours of music over Labor Day Weekend.Hosted at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort & Spa, the Labor Day Weekend Party brings some of the best jazz musicians in world together in an intimate, cabaret-style setting at the Marriott’s Grand Ballroom for a blend of jazz music not found anywhere else.This year’s line-up features the Monty Alexander Trio, the Clayton Brothers Quintet, the Wycliffe Gordon Sextet, the Benny Green-Russell Malone Duo, the Rhoda Scott Quartet, Marlena Shaw and her Trio, and the Mile High Chapter Choir.Sessions are scheduled as follows in the Marriott’s Grand Ballroom: Friday, Aug. 30, 8 p.m. Saturday Aug. 31, 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, noonIn addition, the VJF will once again organize its Vail Jazz Workshop for young jazz musicians. Twelve fully paid scholarships have be granted to high school students who have distinguished themselves in their respective music programs at some of the best known high school jazz programs located throughout the United States.Each year workshop students are featured performers, along with their instructors, at the annual Labor Day Weekend Party. Their attendance at the party not only provides them with multiple performance opportunities but the opportunity to see, hear and interact with the world-renowned jazz artists who perform at the party.
