Vail Jazz Workshop students perform free concert Thursday
VAIL ” The Vail Jazz Foundation’s Vail Jazz Workshop students will perform at a free concert on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa’s Centennial Ballroom. The Vail Jazz Workshop is hosted in conjunction with the annual Vail Jazz Festival in order to assist in the development of the next generation of jazz musicians. To date, including this year’s students, 130 students have participated in the workshop, many of whom are now touring professional jazz musicians, including alumni Gerald Clayton and Josh Evans, who will be returning to Vail to perform at this year’s Festival over the Labor Day Weekend.
This year’s twelve high school musicians arrived in Vail Aug. 26 for an intense 10-day workshop where they work 12 to 14 hours a days with the members of the Clayton Brothers Quintet. Now in its eleventh year, the workshop has become the nation’s leading jazz education programs. Students reside with Vail families during their stay and hold their practice sessions at the Vail Cascade.
“The workshop is a highly structured program that requires tremendous dedication and commitment to hard work,” Robin Litt, Executive Director of the Vail Jazz Foundation, said.
