Vail joins Vote Earth campaign

VAIL, Colorado ” Vail, Colorado has joined nearly 3,000 other cities and towns in 83 countries for Earth Hour 2009. During Earth Hour Saturday, participants will not use electricity between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Organizers, which include http://www.earthhour.org and World Wildlife Fund, hope to get one billion people not to use electricity. The results of the effort will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol.

Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008, about 50 million people switched off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera.
