Vail July sales tax collections drop from 2008
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – Vail’s sales tax collections continued their year-long downward slide in July.
Collections for the entire town dropped 19.4 percent in July from July of 2008. Collections for July of 2008 exceeded $1.3 million. This year, July sales tax collections were just more than $1.1 million.
Broken out by the various parts of town, the biggest drop was in Vail Village (down 19.6 percent), followed by the Cascade Village/East Vail/Sandstone/West Vail areas (down 15.6 percent) and Lionshead (down 10.7 percent). The biggest drop – 30 percent – was in collections from businesses located out of town that still pay sales taxes in Vail.
So far this year, only April has had better sales than the same month in 2008, due largely to the Easter holiday falling in April of this year.
