VAIL, Colorado ” The annual Vail, Colorado King of the Mountain Open beach doubles volleyball tournament returns for its 37th consecutive year June 19-21.

Last year, 325 teams crowded both the Vail Athletic Field and Ford Park. Considered one of the Rocky Mountain Region’s premier tournaments, the King of the Mountain Open, is the first major tournament of the outdoor volleyball season for players of all abilities, including men’s and women’s open, A, BB, and B divisions; men’s masters (35-and-older) and seniors (45-and-older); women’s seniors (45-and-older); co-ed A and B. There are also special Father’s Day Divisions.

As well, the King of the Mountain is the only Rocky Mountain Region stop on the U.S. Junior Beach Volleyball Tour, offering age-group divisions in U-18, U-16, U-14, and U-12 for both girls and boys and a free juniors doubles clinic on June 19 at noon-4:30 p.m. at the Vail Athletic Field. This clinic will be directed by John Kessel of USA Volleyball and will stress the basic strategies and fundamentals of beach doubles volleyball.

Besides the competition, there is a barbecue on site and music throughout every day of the tourney.
