Vail library celebrates Lincoln on Presidents Day

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado ” The Vail, Colorado Public Library will provide an afternoon of games, balloons, cake, stories and skits for children ages 6 to 11 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Monday in the community room of the Vail Library. In honor of Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial birthday, the library has set aside this day to celebrate with local children and visitors, because it is a day that most schools are not in session. Lincoln’s actual birthday was Feb. 12, yet Monday marks Presidents Day, and the Vail Public Library chose Monday to celebrate the “Emancipation President” with youngsters.

“The whole year will be peppered with events throughout our nation commemorating Lincoln and his 200th birthday, and the Town of Vail Public Library is no exception,” said Lori A. Barnes, town librarian. “Last week, we aired a preview screening of the upcoming PBS production ‘Looking for Lincoln’ for the adults in our community. It proved interesting and educational, and the fairly sizable crowd that turned out followed it with a stimulating group discussion about the film. The library’s next Lincoln event is geared toward children and promises to be a lot of fun.”

Parents are welcome. The event is free. For more information, call 970-479-2179.
