Special to the Vail Daily"Sistine Secrets" is next up for the Vail library's book discussion group

VAIL – The Vail library’s public book discussion group meets at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 14th in the community room of the library. The book to be discussed is “The Sistine Secrets: Michelangelo’s Forbidden Messages in the Heart of the Vatican,” by Benjamin Blech and Roy Doliner,.

The publisher describes the book: “The recent cleaning of the Sistine Chapel frescoes removed layer after layer of centuries of accumulated tarnish and darkness. The Sistine Secrets” endeavors to remove the centuries of prejudice, censorship, and ignorance that blind us to the truth about one of the world’s most famous and beloved art treasures.”

“Once again, we are pleased to offer a community event for adults, centered on reading,” says Lori A. Barnes, town librarian. “People gather at the Vail Public Library to share diverse ideas and opinions prompted by the books we choose. Titles are selected because we feel they are memorable, controversial, or insightful.”

The group will continue to meet on the second Wednesday of every month. Copies of the book “The Sistine Secrets” are available through the Vail Public Library. The event is free. For more information, call the Vail Public library 970-479-2187.
