Vail library has different hours this month

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – The Town of Vail Public Library will be operating with modified hours this month to accommodate installation of a new self-check service. The adjusted hours are as follows:

• Oct. 11-15, open 3 to 8 p.m.

• Oct. 18-20, closed

• Oct. 21-22, open 3 to 8 p.m.

Regular operating hours will return to the library on Saturdays and Sundays during the installation, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Installation of the Radio Frequency Identification system requires a tagging process for the library’s 50,000-plus materials as well as some electrical work. A new self-check kiosk will be in operation after Oct. 22.

Town Librarian Lori Barnes says the system will provide numerous benefits to library patrons and staff. The most obvious will be a substantial increase in the speed at which items can be checked in and out. She says the time-savings will result in shorter lines and quicker access to holds.

Patrons will scan their library card at the self-check kiosk. Library materials are then placed on a reader pad, which transmits the item’s electronic barcode number.
