VAIL – The Vail Public Library will operate with reduced hours later this month for training and maintenance. The changes begin Wednesday when the library hours will only be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. for training. The late openings will continue weekdays May 17 through 21 and May 24 through 28 with a 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. schedule to allow for the library’s semi-annual maintenance, spring cleaning and a DVD repackaging project. Regular hours will be maintained on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library will be closed on May 31 in honor of Memorial Day. Story hours will still take place during the month of May. Look for Miss Cricket in the community room on those days when the library has a late opening.Beginning June 1, the library will resume regular business hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.Upcoming events at the library include the Make a Splash Summer Reading Program kick off on June 8 with ventriloquist Wayne and his sidekick, Wingnut.During April’s amnesty program, many overdue items were returned to the library. The total amount of fines waived during this period was $1,046. A similar amnesty period in 2009 resulted in over $2,000 in fines waived, said Town Librarian Lori A. Barnes. “We want our patrons to be in good standing at the library so that they can enjoy the many services, collections and programs that we have to offer, ” she said. “Amnesty is one way the library says ‘thank you’ to our customers.”
