Vail makes minor service cuts
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – The front counter of the Vail Police Department will be closed on Sundays and electrical inspections will no longer be done everyday due to reduced staffing.
Starting Monday, the front desk will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The office is being closed on Sundays due to a low demand for police administrative services and a staffing vacancy which will remain unfilled while the adjustments are evaluated.—
Police Department visitors who arrive after hours or on Sundays will be directed to a phone at the police department entrance which will connect the caller with the Vail Public Safety Communications Center.
Electrical inspections will be done by the Community Development Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Chief Building Official Martin Haeberle says the new schedule will be more efficient because the town has hired an independent contractor to perform the work instead of keeping a full-time inspector on staff. Inspection requests are due by 4 p.m. the previous business day and may be made by calling the inspection line at 970-479-2149.
Haeberle says the current volume of inspection requests will be easily accommodated within the twice-a-week schedule. Local contractors have been notified of the change.
Vail Town Manager Stan Zemler says that while the public won’t notice these adjustments, other service adjustments that will likely be required in the next 12 to 18 months may have larger impacts
