Vail Mountain missing from Ski Country maps
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado ” Four ski mountains, including Vail, are noticeably absent from a new promotional map printed by Colorado Ski Country USA.
Ski Country ” which was created in 1963 to promote skiing in Colorado ” reprinted its arial-view maps this year, after Vail Resorts announced its plans to leave the group. Vail Resorts’ mountains ” Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone ” are no longer identified on the map.
Ski Country spokeswoman Jennifer Rudolph said the maps were reprinted so they would accurately reflect the group’s membership. The company began distributing the new maps earlier this month.
Vail Resorts announced in May its plans to leave Ski Country, decreasing the total number of ski areas in the organization from 26 to 22.
“We’re not members anymore, so we’re not on the map,” said Vail Mountain spokeswoman Jen Brown.
Officials said the decision was made to leave the group because it focused too much on marketing and not enough on public policy. Colorado Ski Country also reprinted all of the material that identified it as a 26-member organization.
Rudolph said Colorado Ski Country would work with Vail Resorts again in the future.
“It would be nice to have a relationship with them at some point,” she said. “But we’re plowing ahead with all of our programs that we’ve been working on over the summer … we’re just happy that we have two mountains open already.”
