VAIL ” Vail Mountain will fire up Northwoods Express Lift today but will hold off on opening Game Creek Bowl until Friday.

Parts of Northeast Bowl will be open off the Northwoods lift. Also opening Wednesday are Minnie’s Lift (Chair 9), the Cascade Village Lift (Chair 20), the Gopher Hill Lift (Lift 12) at Golden Peak, and Golden Peak and Eagle’s Nest beginner carpets.

The openings will increase Vail’s offerings to 1,038 acres with 72 runs accessed by 13 lifts.

Vail was originally going to open Game Creek Bowl on Wednesday, but mountain officials decided to delay that a few days to do some more grooming work, said spokeswoman Jen Brown.

“We’re pushing it back to ensure that there’s a great base and make it a great skiing and snowboarding experience,” she said.

On Friday, Vail will run the Game Creek Express Lift (Chair 7), the Pride Express Lift (Chair 26) and another surface lift at Eagle’s Nest. That will bring Vail’s terrain to 1,146 acres, 83 trails and 17 lifts.

Lifts close at 3:30 p.m.

Pass restrictions have been lifted for Friday and Saturday at Vail and Beaver Creek.

Vail opened for the season last Friday with almost 800 acres.
