VAIL, Colorado –Vail Mountain School performs “Willy Wonka Jr.” on Friday and Saturday in the East Vail school’s theater.

With words and music by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and adapted for the stage by Leslie Bricusse and Timothy A. McDonald, this musical production is based on Roald Dahl’s best-selling book, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The cast includes middle, lower, and upper school students who have been rehearsing for the past two months.

Willy Wonka is a world-famous chocolate maker who decides he is ready to retire, but first needs to find an heir to take over his chocolate factory. He designs a contest to find his replacement by hiding five golden tickets inside his popular Wonka chocolate bars. Five lucky children from around the world are invited to tour the factory with their parents, but in there can be only one winner.

Friday’s performance starts at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday’s, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door. Doors open 30 minutes before showtime. A bake sale will be held to benefit the school’s theater department. For more information, call 970-476-3850.
