VAIL, Colorado –Vail Mountain School introduced students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of the school to author, speaker, psychologist, and school consultant Michael Thompson, Ph.D. earlier this week.

Thompson spent two days on the East Vail campus, sharing advice on topics including the social lives of children, parent-teacher relationships, the transition into high school, the college admission process, and helping children find success in school and life.

“While his professional accomplishments are many, what are most impressive about Dr. Thompson are his warmth, empathy, and the genuine interest he takes in understanding the complex, dynamic social lives of children in schools,” says Kate Drescher, the school’s staff psychologist.

Third grader Shane Cole added, “Dr. Thompson is a very generous and kind man. He’s also easier to talk to than most adults I know.”

Thompson is a psychologist, school consultant, and author or co-author of eight books, including the New York Times bestseller, “Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys,” and “Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children.” –

Thompson has spoken at or consulted to more than 500 schools in the U.S. and abroad. He has appeared on the Today Show, the Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20 and 60 Minutes.
