Vail Mountain surpasses snowfall record – Blue Sky Basin opens Friday, Dec. 9

VAIL ” Vail Mountain recently set a new cumulative snowfall record of 141.25 inches at the top of the mountain.

With nearly 12 feet of snow falling already this winter (four feet in the past week) conditions are phenomenal.

The previous cumulative snowfall record was set during the 1985-1986 season with a total of 140 inches and the year-to-date average through today is 71 inches.



On Friday, Dec. 9 Blue Sky Basin will open for the season growing the terrain total to more than 4,600 acres with 188 trails served by 29 lifts including Skyline Express Lift (Chair 37) and Pete’s Express Lift (Chair 39) in Blue Sky Basin. Resort officials will extend the ski day by opening at 8:30 a.m. and closing at 3:30 p.m.



Lifts in the Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin close approximately 30 minutes earlier than front side lifts.
