Vail Nature Center opens Saturday

VAIL – The Vail Nature Center opens Saturday with its plant and animal exhibits, wildflower and morning bird walks and evening beaver pond tours,
The center also offers a summer speaker series, a hiking club, fly fishing and stream ecology classes, photography in nature classes, raptor education presentations, youth and adult art in nature programs, creek side tours, campfire story telling and star gazing.
The Nature Center will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Labor Day weekend and is located adjacent to Ford Park and across the street from the Vail athletic fields. For the 2010 summer schedule, visit http://www.vailrec.com.
The Nature Center is expanding its Art in Nature program to incorporate youth programs this summer. The newly-revised Art in Nature/Nature in Art program is a partnership among the Nature Center, The Art Center in Gypsum and the Town of Vail’s Art in Public Places Program and will combine art with nature including wind mobiles, paper and candle making, watercolor painting, clay sculpting and more.
Costs are $35 per person and includes materials. Family discounts are available. The adult program will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, June 14 to Aug. 16 and the youth program, for ages four to 16, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays, June 18 to Aug. 20.
The Nature Center is also seeking volunteers to help with its programs from early June through August. Volunteers are needed for children’s activities, greeting visitors and assisting with the gift shop. Volunteers will receive discounted access to the Nature Center’s programs throughout the summer.
