Vail needs housing, not parking
Parking? We don’t need no stinkin’ parking!
I had to laugh when I read the editorial board’s final plea in support of the Lionshead makeover:
“But we can think of one thing that’s even more annoying than dodging construction during the winter: having to tromp a mile down the frontage road in ski boots because the parking structures are full.”
Does this mean that you guys aren’t smart enough to take the bus? Only tourists and Front Rangers get stuck parking a mile down the frontage road.
Any local who is interested in 1) not walking down the frontage road, 2) saving money and benefiting the environment and, 3) having a few beers at apres ski, takes the bus to the lifts. It’s a no-brainer.
Sure, a Lionshead parking structure makeover is probably inevitable, and more parking will be welcome by some. But what we really need in Vail is more year-round affordable housing for families, not parking spaces. I hope the editors of the paper choose to take the bus the next time they hit the slopes. If you don’t, you deserve to walk a mile ” or two ” in your ski boots.
