A bike ride and walk up Vail Pass Saturday – with a champagne toast at the top – will raise funds for the Jon Efraimson Cancer Support Fund.Efraimson, who moved to Vail in 1988 and later co-founded EEF Productions, died at age 36 in February 2003, of a form of lung cancer. The fund was set up in his honor to help patients of Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards.

“The loss of my husband, Eef, has been tough,” Efraimson’s wife, Lisa, said. “However, you have all given me strength and courage to continue to live the life I know Jon would want me to continue to live, and give back to those who have been faced with similar conditions. “By being involved with the EEF Cancer Support group, I hope to fulfill dreams and give inspiration to those who are in need during difficult times,” she said.

The climb starts at 10 a.m. at Bogart’s in Vail’s Crossroads shopping center. The group will then walk, bike or rollerblade up Vail Pass. At the top, Efraimson will be remembered with a champagne toast. The group will then head back down to the Vail Village for a party from 2 p.m. -6 p.m. at Bogart’s. “The first year was a fun, motivating group ride with Jon to help him realize his goal of riding Vail Pass. Watching him meet that goal and toasting him with champagne is something everyone there will never forget,” organizer Meggen Bernstein said. “Last year, the event became a fund-raiser with over 50 people participating on a glorious fall day and raising nearly $3,000.

“We saw walkers, hard-core and casual bikers, kids in tow, single speeds – everyone having a great time in the spirit of Jon ‘Eef,'” she said. The cost to participate is $50 pre-registration – $55 day of the event – and includes the fun ride/walk up Vail Pass, champagne toast and snacks atop Vail Pass, post-party at Bogart’s with food, beer, sodas and drink specials, one prize ticket, a T-shirt and other giveaways. To pre-register and for more information, stop by the Vail Sports Wall Street location in Vail Village or the Vail Sports Vail 21 location in Lionshead by today. Participants can also register the day of the event for an additional $5 from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. at Bogart’s.Vail Colorado
