EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – American Civil Constructors Inc., contractor for the Colorado Department of Transportation, will be wrapping up work this week on the $9.5 million project designed to improve safety along west Vail Pass.

The company began work early June to make improvements to a 10-mile stretch of west Vail Pass in the east- and westbound lanes between mile markers 180 and 190.

The project has involved milling the asphalt surface and overlaying the highway with new asphalt, installing new concrete barrier and guardrail, repairing bridge joints, making drainage improvements and installing electronic variable message boards and traffic sensors.

Crews will work through next Oct. 19 making additional drainage improvements between mile markers 177 and 178.

Funding for this project came from Colorado FASTER.
