Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL PASS, Colorado – The Colorado Department of Transportation has finished resurfacing work on the Vail Pass recreation path from Bighorn Road in east Vail to the top of Vail Pass. Work finished on time and on budget. –

As part of the work, crews replaced damaged culverts throughout the path to help improve drainage, and paved, shouldered, and striped the path to create a smoother surface for cyclists. Permanent mileage marker and improved safety signage was installed throughout the project, which will aid local emergency personnel who are frequently called to the path after cycling accidents. Additionally, crews used leftover materials to further improve the path by paving Bighorn Road from Main Gore Drive to the gate, and also paved from where the path splits to the cul-de-sac.

The path was originally built in the 1970s and is popular with local residents and tourists for cycling and walking through the summer and fall months.

Columbine Hills Concrete, Inc. was the contractor for the $875,000 project.
