Vail Pass rec area has low snow

Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – Portions of the Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area remain closed this President’s Day Weekend due to low snow.

“As of Thursday, the Shrine Pass/Wilder Gulch connector route (Trail #2 on the pocket map) remains closed to snowmobile use due to a lack of adequate snow,” says backcountry ranger Graham Predeger. “Additionally, the peak of Ptarmigan Hill within a 50-meter radius of the Ptarmigan radio repeater is also closed.”

Both closures are well marked, he says.

These temporary closures are a result of low snow and have been put into effect in order to prevent resource damage in the very popular Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area. Forest Service rangers will be monitoring conditions daily in order to re-open these areas as soon as favorable conditions allow.

For current snow and trail conditions across the State of Colorado, snowmobile users should consider going to the web site of the Colorado Snowmobile Association at http://www.coloradosledcity.com.

For further information or questions, contact Predeger at 970-274-9911 or Tyler Kirkpatrick at 970-376-4317.
