Vail police report increase in home burglaries

VAIL, Colorado –Vail Police have seen an increase in residential burglaries since June and are asking the community to be more diligent to help prevent future break-ins.

Seven burglaries have been investigated by the department as of June 3 compared to just three in May. The break-ins have occurred in different neighborhoods and police are pursuing leads in the cases.

The properties have been struck during the day when people are at work or away from home, says Vail Police Commander Craig Bettis,

The suspects appear to be getting in through open windows and doors and In some cases, screens are being removed, Bettis said. –

Items that have been stolen include prescription medication, checkbooks and other personal items, he said.

Vail Police are urging residents to lock their doors and windows when leaving their homes and to activate security alarms. Also, residents are encouraged to talk to their neighbors about keeping a watch for any suspicious activity and to call 911 to report it.-

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying additional leads about the recent burglaries and are offering a cash reward for any suspect information that contributes to an arrest. For details, contact Bettis at 970-479-2346
