Vail rec district election is May 4

VAIL – The Vail Park and Recreation District’s special district election will take place May 4. Voters will fill three seats and the winners will serve four-year terms.

Four candidates, John Donovan and incumbents Joe Hanlon, Rick Sackbauer and Ken Wilson, are running for the three board of director seats.

April 5 is the last day to register as a Colorado voter for the election. Eligible voters include:



• Property owners within the district, who are registered to vote in the state of Colorado – this includes property owners who own within the district but live elsewhere in Colorado (Please note: to be eligible a property must be held in an individual

name, not a partnership, corporation or trust)

• A resident of the rec district

• A person who is obligated to pay taxes under a contract to purchase taxable property in the district and an eligible voter in Colorado

• The spouse of someone who is the owner of taxable real or personal property within the boundaries of the district and an eligible voter in Colorado

Mail-in voting requests are now being taken in writing at the rec district administration office, 700 South. Frontage Road, East in Vail. The final day to request a mail-in ballot is April 27 if the ballot is to be mailed. The final day for walk-in mail in ballot requests is April 30.

Voters will cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. election day at the Vail Municipal Building, 75 South Frontage Road. The newly-elected winners will join board of directors Jeff Wiles and Michelle Hall, whose terms run to May 2012. A chairperson and secretary treasurer will be elected from among the board of directors and each will serve a two-year post.

The rec district is separate from the town of Vail. It operates programs at the Vail Golf Club, Vail Tennis Center, Dobson Ice Arena, Vail Gymnastics Center, Vail Nature Center, Vail Nordic Center, and intramural sports and children’s camps.
