VAIL — The Vail Recreation District and Vail Chamber & Business Association will host the fifth annual Businesses, Bogeys and Bragging Rights Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Vail Golf Club to benefit the VRD’s Tom Slaughter Jr. Memorial Youth Recreation Grant.
The grant program — a memorial to Vail resident and Lionshead Village employee Tom Slaughter Jr. who enjoyed endless recreational opportunities in the valley — is used to award funds to local school-aged children who are in need of financial support to participate in VRD youth programs. The VRD is partnering with the VCBA for the tournament as an opportunity to bring the community together for a social and spirited day of golf.
The Tom Slaughter Jr. Memorial Grant Program began in 1997 and provides youth with opportunities to participate in VRD day and sport camps, gymnastics, golf, basketball and other programs throughout the Vail Valley. Each year, the VRD awards approximately $20,000 in cash and in-kind services to children in Eagle County through the Tom Slaughter, Jr. Memorial Grant programs.
Last year’s golf tournament hosted 27 teams and raised more than $15,000 to be used this year and in future years.
“Last year’s tournament was incredibly successful thanks to all the great partners that we have in this community,” said VRD executive director Mike Ortiz. “The VRD prides ourselves in providing amazing learning opportunities for the young and young at heart.”
The cost to participate is $500 per team, including carts. The fee covers food and refreshments, as well as opportunities to compete based on performance.
Each golfer will receive a take-home gift, and the winning teams will receive trophies. This year, the tournament has a new theme — No. 1 Sports Fan. Themed costumes are encouraged so come dressed as your favorite team or athlete. Prizes will be given to the best-dressed player and team.
Following the tournament, an after-party will be held in the Gore Range Room at the Vail Golf & Nordic Clubhouse.
Register to reserve your team spot as this tournament will sell out. Sponsorships are also available for businesses within the community.
Sponsorship and team registration information is available at http://www.vail.golf/bbb.
