Vail reports 8 inches of fresh snow; more on the way

VAIL, Colorado – More snow is expected in the Vail area Monday afternoon and Tuesday as a powerful winter storm makes its way across Colorado.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday. A blizzard watch has been issued for Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Snow will continue through Monday night, redevelop late Tuesday and continue through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Total snow accumulations of 1-2 feet are expected by Tuesday morning. Additional snowfall Tuesday night into Wednesday could bring another foot.

Vail Mountain reported 8 inches of fresh snow as of Monday morning.

Winter driving conditions are expected. Whiteout conditions are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday, the weather service said.

“Travel through Colorado and Utah mountains will be hazardous or impossible at times today (Monday) and Wednesday,” according to the National Weather Service.

The warnings were issued for an area that includes Vail, Aspen, Crested Butte and Telluride.
