Vail rescuers search for hiker
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – Rescue teams are searching for a 27-year-old man who reportedly has altitude sickness in the Holy Cross area southwest of Red Cliff.
The man started experiencing altitude sickness on Thursday night while camping near Lake Patricia, Shannon Cordingly, a spokeswoman for the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said.
A friend called 911 shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday morning to report the man was suffering from altitude sickness, she said. At 10:30 a.m. two hikers with Vail Mountain Rescue started hiking from the Half Moon trail head to search for the man, Cordingly said. A helicopter with Gypsum’s High-Altitude Aviation Training Site also planned to drop off a rescue team at the top of Half Moon Pass. Authorities think the man with altitude sickness is somewhere on the Half Moon trail.
The man is hiking with a group, thought it’s unclear how many people are part of the group, Cordingly said. She did not yet have information available about the man’s residence.
