Vail, CO Colorado
BROOMFIELD ” Roger McCarthy, the head of Breckenridge ski resort and co-president of Vail Resorts’ mountain division, is leaving the company to help develop a ski resort in Russia.
The resort, Rosa Khutor, is near Suchi, a city in southwestern Russia that is a finalist for 2014 Winter Olympics.
McCarthy joined Vail Resorts in February 2000 as chief operating officer of Breckenridge Resort. He reached an agreement with the town to build the BreckConnect Gondola and oversaw expanded development at the resort, including construction of the North America’s highest chairlift.
He also oversaw expansion at nearby Keystone.
“It’s a bittersweet decision, but I have been offered the rare opportunity to be involved in leading the development of an entirely new resort from the ground up,” said McCarthy, who will leave the company May 4.
