Vail Resorts lands on ‘most innovative’ list
BROOMFIELD — Vail Resorts has been named one of the world’s 50 Most Innovative Companies for 2016 by Fast Company magazine, honored for exemplifying “the best in nimble business and impactful innovation” according to a release from that publication. Vail Resorts was the only Colorado company to make the list and was also chosen by Fast Company as one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in the travel sector.
“On behalf of our more than 25,000 brave, ambitious and passionate employees, we are incredibly honored to be recognized by Fast Company for our efforts to reimagine every aspect of the mountain experience for both our guests and our employees,” Vail Resorts chairman and CEO Rob Katz said. “From our game-changing Epic Season Pass, to our groundbreaking social media application, EpicMix, to our sophisticated approach to personalizing our conversation with our guests and our use of acquisitions to create a highly impactful network of world-class resorts, we continually strive to raise the bar for the entire travel industry. Our success has been made possible because of our people, who lie at the core of all innovation, and all of the time and effort everyone at Vail Resorts commits to developing leaders at all levels of our organization.”
To produce the 2016 list, the magazine’s editors spent a full year gathering and analyzing data on companies around the globe.
Vail Resorts was recognized for several key differentiators, including the following:
• The Epic Pass. Introduced in 2008, the Epic Pass has changed the landscape of the ski industry, providing skiers and snowboarders with unlimited, unrestricted skiing at 12 mountain resorts.
• EpicMix. In 2010, Vail Resorts unveiled EpicMix, a first-of-its-kind application that enables users to capture their mountain experience using a lift ticket or season pass and passive scanners at each lift.
• Personalized marketing. Vail Resorts uses EpicMix and other guest insights to create a more personal, relevant and sophisticated dialogue with skiers and riders.
• Sustainability. Vail Resorts has been on the leading edge of many environmental initiatives in the travel industry, which began in 2006 when it became the second largest corporate purchaser of wind power in the U.S. to offset 100 percent of its energy use.
